We are all good and really counting our blessings

Just to let you all know that we are doing fine.  One of Guardians helicopters collided with another medical helicopter in the air just about a mile from the hospital.  It was a great tragedy that was a little to close for comfort.  The two crew members were very close friends of Steve's and were great men.  He is very sad for the loss.

I just wanted to let everyone know whether you heard or not that we are OK Steve was home when it happened.  We are feeling very grateful that he has been able to have his Sundays off.   We are definatly counting our blessings and felling the blessings of knowing our Heavenly Father.

We love our families and are so grateful to be a part of such wonderful people.

Geneology

So now we know why we need to have our geneology done for a number of generations back right? I now have everything that Aunt Bert and Dad have done in the Personal Ancestral File program loaded on my computer and on cds. But, I am not the one with kids who will need to go looking for that info as their children run off to EA or where ever and meet people from all over. It seems that anyone of us or our cousins that have ever gone to EA end up meeting up with a relative from some line or another.
Reunion time - about two or three weeks away now. Dad is going to be doing Friday morning breakfast, Derek and Becky, Friday night dinner, Shauna and Steve, Saturday morning breakfast, Rob and Cindi Saturday night dinner and Jamie, Sunday morning breakfast. Lunches are on our own. Scott and Kim are not able to make it this year. We will miss you guys. As far as I know talking to everyone, we should all be up there by Friday evening and there through Sat (Derek and Becky may go home on Saturday) or Sunday.
What other questions need to be answered?

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Ok so Becky got me into this Family Search and how Mom and Dad are 4th cousins twice. When Becky told me about this I had to go look it up myself and I found another connection. I will try to put it like Becky did. Mary Curtis Sister to Lyman Curtis who was the father of Samuel B Curtis who was the father of Anna Curtis who was the mother of Audeen who was the mother of Larry who married Evelyn whos mother was Vessa who was the daughter of Ray Hanchett who was the son of Delia Millecent Reed who was the daughter of Mary Curtis who was the sister to Lyman Curtis. Both lines run through Ray Hanchett and Anna Curtis. It has been very interesting learning all these things.

Did you know????

That Evelyn and Larry are 4th cousins?

Here it goes:

Once upon a time there was a brother and sister named Nathaniel Calonder Hanchett and Diantha Hanchett...and they got married (to other people:) .

Diantha Hanchett married
(Elias Gardner) they gave birth to:
Susan Lucretia Gardner who married
(Samuel B. Curtis) and they gave birth to
Anna Elizina Curtis who married
(George Frank) and they had
Audeen Frank who married
(Delbert Rapier) and they had
Larry Rapier who married
Evelyn McGrath who's mother was
Vessa Leola Hanchett she married
(James Vernon McGrath) and Vessa's father was
Ray Monroe Hanchett who's father was
(wife)
Myron Nathaniel Hancett who's father was
(wife)
Nathaniel Calonder Hancett who is the brother of Diantha Hancett who is Larry's Great Great Grandmother!

I always thought there was something wrong with the Rapier Children!!! LOL Strange enough to marry I suppose :)

We went and visited Granny the other day and got her on video.  You can't hear her very good over the music she said she loves you and to come visit her.  We really enjoyed our visit and Steve even got to hug one of Granny's good friends.  Steve got told how handsome he was and I got told how big I was.  It was good to visit with her.

Visit w/ granny

Yeah Aunt Sherri

You have indeed now blogged. We would love to see some pictures of your adorable grandchildren. It sounds like you guys are keeping busy visiting when you can though and Nathan certainly sounds incredibly busy. I'm glad it's him running, not me and certainly not here. I'll stick to the pool exercise with this heat.
I just finished my second week at the fabric store. It is really a great deal of fun - busy work physically. At the end of the day, I know I'm tired and sore because I've been very busy all day. But, the people are very nice as well as the owners and that is something I appreciate. The fabrics is mostly, well, they certainly cater to quilters, and quilters seem like a nice lot of people. They are all determined that I will get into quilting though even though I have not started yet. I am determined that I will keep my projects small and not spend my entire paycheck in the store I just earned it in. I think that may be why the owners are such a happy pair, I think that most of their employees probably put most of their paycheck right back into the store's till. Well, maybe it's just us girls in fabrics because I don't think the men repairing sewing machines and vacuums and the girls/guy up front who sell the sewing machines and vacuums get to see and crave the tremendous collections of fabrics that we get to see and want. Maybe the girls up front get hooked on the embroidery like I am. They get to play with all the new machines and make store samples and stuff with the biggest, best and most complicated machines there are. I'm going to sign up for a few more classes this next quarter and see what new things I can learn. That's what I enjoy about this job too are the amount of classes that the stores have that teach you more about sewing and your sewing machine, techniques, cute projects, etc.
Anyhow, glad to see you that you blogged Aunt Sherri. Isn't it about time for Josh to check in with new exciting stories from the east coast. Has getting hooked on Nutella bumped you off the blogspot???????
Love all of you, Cindi

Hello, My Darlings!

Cindi invited me to join with you, but I've never "posted" on a "blog" before. In fact, is that what I am doing? Hello to you all and Hey, Tristen, the music seems just fine to me!!!!

Greetings from your Christensen family members. We're well, we're happy, and we're boring (Maybe there is a connection to that and me liking the music, ya think?). It is summer, so my attitude is pretty good, and in another 10 days Alan and I will drive up to Washington to see our two darling little girls (and their parents). In fact, when I figure out a little more what I'm doing I'll post a couple of pictures of them for you to appreciate.

Today Nate is participating in the Wasatch Back Relay Race taking place on the 176 miles from Logan to Park City. In fact, it is pretty close to the time that he will be running his first leg of the race. He is on a team of 12 and each will run 3 legs between now and tomorrow afternoon. He'll come back sunburned, exausted, and very proud of himself.

A week ago we went for dinner and the evening to Aspen Grove (in Provo Canyon) with all of the Wayne/Barbara McGrath family members (they were only missing two). It was fun to see them all. There are a couple who are looking like very mature men!!! And their kids are growing up, too....just like yours. I had some of the Christmas pictures from many of you and they all enjoyed looking at those.

Thanks for letting me participate. I've loved reading about what is up in your lives. Talk to you later.

Well, dear Tristen, your suggestions are noted

I can't imagine that you are actually falling asleep. I worked long and hard to try to get a good mix of different kinds of music - ranging from 50's to 60,'s, 70's, country, gospel, etc. But, I probably missed 80's, 90's and is there 2000's? But, I knew I would probably miss the boat with you youngins because I do not have a clue what you guys listen to. And, I would have never guessed you suggesting Queen. Whoa. However, I had to have Rob help me figure out how to put the music list from www.playlist.com on the blogsite and I don't know how to add or even take some off that I really don't want on there anymore. So, editing may take me awhile. You are welcome to send me more suggestions. There are about 45 songs on there right now already so you'd have to be on a long time to hear them all go round and I put it where it will randomly shuffle them. So, for now, it is what it is and I'll try to work on some changes.

The Jello Recipe

Sorry this didn't get to you earlier...I was at camp, and didn't check the computer till today.

1 small box of vanilla pudding, the cooking kind
1 small box of orange jello
1 can of pineapple chunks
1 can of mandarin oranges
fresh strawberries
bananas

Drain juice from canned fruit and add water to make 3 cupsAdd water, pudding mix and jello in saucepan and cook until it boils. Put into a bowl and refridgerate overnight.

Next day add fruit.

(note from Becky...I don't always have fresh strawberries...so I don't add them, and sometimes I add coconut, so you can be creative...it is delish every time!!!)

Post Camp Blog

I am back from girls camp. I have to say I am one of those strange people who LOVE to go. I had a great group of girls, I was the 4th level leader, and Dawn Norton was my assistant. I have been certifying with the girls for the last 3 years, as I didn't go but one year when I was a young woman. This year was my final certifying year, I did the over night hike, and I went repelling, WAHOOO! It was fun. Uncle Danny was the priesthood holder on our over night hike, and he was a trooper. He gave up his bigger tent in an effort to try to have enough room for 3 leaders to sleep, but I had a blow up mattress and it took up about 2/3 of the tent! I was willing to sleep out under the stars with my fat mattress, but they insisted I sleep in the tent and the other leader went back to camp to sleep, and then they brought her back in the morning to hike back with us. She was certifying like me, but she is also a counselor in the Stake YW's presidency.

It may be silly but I felt proud that I certified. The last 2 years I was the YCL leader and certifying was a little bit easier as we didn't have to cook, and I wasn't in charge of certifying the girls. This year was very busy, but very rewarding. I am learning lessons as I go along, LIKE ASK...and ye shall receive :) I didn't bring a lantern, and so I just thought we were in the dark for the week....well at the end of the week I found out that Yeah, there is a place with tons of stuff for the 4th level girls...didn't I know that? Nope, but I do now! So we had light the last 2 nights! LOL Oh well, it was fun anyway.

My dishwasher that has been broken for perhaps 2 months, got fixed while I was gone...HIP HIP HURRAY!!! The kids had the house very nice when I got back, except the laundry room...so I have been working on that and washing my camp stuff...and Tayler washing hers, I don't think Russell got his camp stuff washed from the week before. It is good to be home. Hope all is well with everyone!

Love,
Becky

Hello everyone - Dad

Beautiful Sunflowers

Just a cool picture of the beautiful sunflowers that Rob has growing in the backyard. We had some yellows but I think that these browns, oranges and reds are actually way cooler and they look really cool against our new brick wall in the kitchen. The yellows would look good mixed in there too, but they are already all gone I think. I'm so lucky, we get all sorts of different bouquets from the flowers Rob grows. They would probably die under my care. I can keep some houseplants alive but they have to be pretty hardy.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Oh yea, I forgot

still don't have the jello recipie, i need to go grocery shopping for fater's day tommorow, so if nobody has it, can you give me one that is equally scrumptious?

sorry about all the boring cooking talk, i know i would be bored out of my gord if I had to read this stuff, no offence.

Stupid egg thing

I just made the whole recipie after all. Cindi, it was that stupid cookie dough mix that I bought from jace's baseball fundraiser. I had all of the other ingredients figured out except for the egg, but I got so frustrated with the whole idea that i just said screw it and made all 50 cookies. It ended up being ok though because it took a couple of batches to figure out how much time to cook them with out burning them, and by the time I got finished sampling them after each batch, I only ended up with about 35. The sampling was a very important step. All I can say is that I'm going to stick to the sam's club tub o' chocolate chip cookie dough. it's way easier and i can stack on it while i'm scooping out the cookie plops (no salmonella poisioning!). Thanks for all your help and comments/e-mails, now i'll know for future reference. That is if I don't delete the e-mail. I seem to be like Dory from finding Nemo lately. I can't even remember things I said less than five minutes ago, let alone yesterday, and last week or last month, forget about it. Love ya'll, laters.

LOL

LOL. Jamie, I think you have asked this question before about splitting an egg in half. You can't half an egg. You just use the whole egg. In baking, it shouldn't affect your recipe too much. Like with brownies, some recipies call for more or less depending on if you want your brownies cake like or fudge like. What kind of recipie are you trying to split an egg in half for?
And I don't have Jenny Lou's recipie for fruit salad. Sorry can't help you on that one.
I just finished my first two days at the fabric shop. It is hard work physically because I am on my feet all day, but it is fun and when the day is done I know Iworked hard. I am so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of fabric they have. They swear I'll get into quilting but right now, I couldn't even begin to narrow down fabrics that I use to put together a quilt. I think I'll start with purses/bags or more aprons. Small easy stuff that can be done fairly quickly. Plus I'm still liking the embroidery. Anyhow, it's fun and the people are nice.

cooking question, actually two cooking questions

Does anybody know what to do when you half a recipie that only calls for one egg? How do you half an egg, unless you crack it and scrample it and add half of the egg goo. I don't know, I don't bake very much. I know how to follow a recipie but can't figure this one out.

Also, I don't know if Jennie Lou is on the blog yet or not and can read this, but do any of you have her recipie for that really good jello/fruit salad she always makes when she does the all out roast and potatoes and fresh rolls dinner? Maybe you becky since you live so close, maybe you picked it up after one of those dinners.

Good for you. I'm glad that you are able to get the days you want. I'm excited for you.

Got my easy, cheesy job

So, I went to interview today at the fabric/sewing/vac store at 35th ave and Northern where I wanted to work. I want to work there mostly for the 25% discount, not a great salary and just because I think it would be fun. We'll see. I work tomorrow (Wed). and Thursday this week and then will hopefully be working Tuesdays and Wednesdays with the exception of the Reunion weekend. This should be a job that stays at work and I shouldn't have to bring home any other work or baggage from it. I'm excited about that. I'll be working in the fabric department cutting fabric as far as I know right now. The fabric part of the store is called Fabric World and they claim to have over 15,000 bolts of fabric. It is a big time quilters place. I'm not ino quilting yet but they all swear they'll get me into it.
Wish me luck.

Jamie's new e-mail address

I wanted to let you know that I am changing my e-mail address once again. I am becoming overwhelmed with junk mail and need a fresh start with my family and friends. sorry about having to change your contact list for those of you who have difficulty doing so.

My new address is jamie.harris.5@gmail.com

I still have my old yahoo address that I will continue to check and will send the same message from both addresses, but I am primarily keeping that address for the other website e-mail postings I am signed up for and to keep these seperate. Thanks for understanding. Love ya'll

Jamie

I was able to change the address

By the way, with my very helpful husband's help, I WAS able to get the direct web address changed to the correct spelling of Rapier. So you can look it up by LDRapierfamilyblog.blogspot.com and log in to the blog page with the correct spelling so it will be easier to remember. Thank you everyone for contributing. Shouts out to Corinne - I am crossing my fingers and toes for you and praying that all is going well.

greeting from new york, well actually new jersey at the moment

hello all, just thought i would assure you all that i'm still alive, and doing well. yesterday completed my first full week working here and it has been quite the experience. so far i have driven threw down town manhattin once during the day and i'm not sure how many times at night. the one time during the day actually put me right next to the empire state building and i can confirm that it is one tall building. i also have seen and drivin over some insane bridges and gone threw some really long tunnels which go underwater. also with my work i have met all kinds of interesting ppl from all over the world. i have met ppl from jamaca, the ukrane, ppl from different islands that i've never heard of, russia, egypt, and a bunch of other places that i can't remember, anyways the work can be aggrivating at times and it does keep me busy and take up pretty much all my time but all in all i'm having a good time and great experience, also i will be posting some pictures as soon as i can, which will probably be like right after this post!!! i love you all and will talk to you laterz

Let's get it started

Let's get it started
After Derek and Becky's trip to take Josh back east, Becky suggested that someone create a Rapier blog as we missed out on alot of things that she was able to send to the Leonard blog as they progressed through their trip. So, here we go. I'll get it started and I'd love to see everyone posting stuff about their families and what they're up to and I'm thinking we all would enjoy that.

The furry five

Here is a rare picture where we got all three cats in one picture. Raccoon is on top, Leonard in the middle and Grandma kitty on the floor. Then there are our two canines. Duchess is the one we think looks like a coyote and Pepper is our biggest our baby. A puppy who is always into something. We'll try not to burden you with too many pet pictures, but........ they are our children so........ like our basket kitty (Raccoon)who tries to fit into any basket she comes across.
